The Ashley Madison Data Leak

Ashley Madison, the infamous adult sex dating website, where married people have affairs, has been hacked. Security researchers and the FBI have confirmed the leaked data, including names and credit card information, is legitimate. It's been claimed that the vast majority of documents are unrelated to AshleyMadison, but at least three sources have vouched that their information was indeed stolen from the affair dating website.

Affair Dating Site Hack

Ashley Madison boasts more than 37 million users that have been using the site for adult sex dating since 2001. The slogan "Life is short. Have an affair" has apparently angered a group of hackers who demanded the site be shut down. Unrelenting, the Canada-based affair dating service had their data breached and 25 gigabytes of data was subsequently stolen and posted on the 'deep web' in retaliation. Now, anyone with an internet connection and some online sleuthing skills can download this information and find people they might know who signed up and paid for the possibility of affair dating.

The Future of the Adult Sex Dating Site

The group of hackers, called The Impact Team, got their response when AshleyMadison's parent company released a statement that said the hackers were not "hacktivists" but criminals. Sometime later, a second, data dump occurred, compromising 12.7 gigabytes of corporate emails, including those of the CEO of the adult sex dating website.

Users whose details were breached are filing a $567 million class-action lawsuit against the owners of Ashley Madison.
